Back when you smoked a cigarette, you never had to worry about forgetting to fill tobacco in your cigarette or adjusting the filter. You just lit a cigarette and started smoking. Then, when you finished smoking, you would just stomp over the cigarette butt and keep walking.

Things are not that easy when it comes to vapes. In addition to all the mechanical technicalities, you have to take care of a lot of other things. One of these many things is the dry hits that haunt the dreams of every vaper.

What Are Dry Hits?

A Dry Hit is when you are vaping happily and you suddenly get this intense harsh inhale that just hits your throat and you feel the harsh note and suddenly let go. You will suddenly stop vaping and run for water because your throat will feel very sore. A dry hit occurs either because you had no liquid on your wick which makes the wick itself burn and you inhale the fumes or it could occur because you used too high a wattage which broke down the liquid into its constituent parts and it burnt your throat.

How to Avoid it?

A dry hit can be avoided and here are some ways to do that:

1. Prime Your Coils:

It is common practice to prime your coils – add e liquid directly to your coils. This helps keep out the dry hit even when the e liquid runs out because the coils have some e liquid to keep going. So, by the time that you realize something is wrong, you will not get any dry hit.

2. E Liquid Levels:

You have to make sure at all times that your e liquid levels do not fall below the level of the wick. This is one of the most common problems that cause dry hits. So, Before you start vaping, always keep an eye on the vape liquid levels in the tank to help you avoid a dry hit. But, also make sure that you clean your coils regularly because gunked up coils also cause a burnt sensation.

3. Wattage:

When the wattage on your vape kit is too high, your vape liquid tends to heat up more than it should. This causes it to break down into its constituents which when burned, will cause a dry hit. You should therefore always run your vape kit according to the recommended settings of the e liquids.

4. Chain Vaping:

Vaping on and on will really increase the chances to experience a dry hit. You see, when you just keep inhaling and exhaling for a very long time, you are not allowing your wicks to absorb the e liquid properly, which then cause the wick to burn. Make sure that you let your wicks absorb the e liquid.

5. Coil Life:

Your coils are not supposed to last very long. Always make sure that you use fresh coils. As a rule of thumb, keep replacing your coils after every 2 weeks.
